How to Wear the Nautical Look

The nautical look is a summer wardrobe staple with cool stripes and fun iconic symbols. Many designers for 2012 have used elements of this classic look in their Spring collections, but it’s all about mixing it up and not going for the obvious to keep it fresh.

Look for sweet nautical print dresses with little anchor prints or wave patterns. Opt for the classic navy, red and white hues but rather than go for a classic striped Breton sailor top, choose a vertical striped dress with cute details such as the Olivia Rubin dress shown below.

Adding a nautical theme to an outfit with accessories is a great and affordable way to update your look. Look for deck shoes in most high-street stores or customise a tired old top with sew on anchor patches or rope patterned belts available at most haberdasher stores.

At Maggie Angus, we’ve got plenty of jewellery pieces for Spring that will add a quirky hint of sailor chic to your wardrobe. The Nautical Charm Necklace with a navy anchor charm, red mirrored acrylic heart and sweet peace sign is a fun and original piece that has  a fab retro hint about it.

Trend Alert – Swinging Sixties

The swinging Sixties are back in a big way this autumn/winter 2011, with cool kooky geometric patterns, pinafores, shift dresses, peter pan collars and presented in burnt oranges, mustards or strong monochromes.

Designers such as Prada and Burberry demonstrated that we shouldn’t shy away from colour this season and in fact fully embrace it mixing hot hues. Also simple silhouettes are important when it comes to this season’s shapes and it’s the small details that really make this look a success with things like Peter Pan collars – as seen at Whistles on cute shift dresses – or huge buttons on your coat. Maggie Angus has a collection influenced by the Sixties called ‘Swinging Sixties’. It has a bold ‘Quant-like’ flower power pattern and digitally printed on to a sleek bib necklace, bold circular ring or sweet little flower earrings. We’ve used this season’s hottest mustard shade alongside monochrome black and white or sweet light teal blue.
